These awards aim to promote strategic growth in heart and brain health science with Black communities

by supporting Black students pursue their post graduate studies. 

PhD $30,000 per year for up to three (3) years

MSc $25,000 per year for up to two (2) years

Vancouver Coastal Health and Faculty of Medicine’s Office of Respectful Environment, Diversity, and Inclusion on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024, from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm (PST) for “Beyond Representation: Celebrating Black Excellence in BC Healthcare” to learn about and celebrate the important contributions made by Black professionals in BC healthcare. During this session, the panelists will share their experiences navigating the healthcare work environment and emphasize the importance of recognizing and promoting Black excellence in health care.

Opt-Out and Subsidy Deadlines

Opt-Outs

  • Students who are assessed AMS Fees this term can apply to opt-out of certain AMS Fees. Deadline to opt-out is January 22 at 11:59PM.
  • In addition, if you’re a new student starting in term 2 and already have extended Health and Dental coverage, you can choose to opt-out of the AMS Health and Dental Plan within the change of coverage period, which is from now till January 24, 2024 11:59PM.

Subsidies

  • The AMS offers partial or full subsidies for students facing financial hardship.
  • The U-Pass subsidy is now open for application to students who are assessed U-Pass fess. Deadline to apply is February 5 at 11:59PM.
  • The AMS Fee and SUB Renewal Fee subsidy is available for new student starting in term 2 who have been assessed these Fees. Deadline to apply is January 19 at 11:59PM
