Akofena Afro-Theatre Society, I warmly invite you and your family to our upcoming anti-Black racism and anti-White hatred play, Through a Film Darkly, written by Joe deGraft and directed by Stephen Yaw Oppong (UBC Graduate Student, Department of Theatre and Film). It also has 4 Black UBC students as part of the cast.

Set in post-independence Ghana, this psychological drama explores race, identity, belonging, and the lasting impacts of colonialism—issues still deeply relevant in Canada today. Janet and Fenyinka, an interracial couple face cultural tension and personal alienation in the changing Ghanaian society. At the core of this play is the recital abuse African and Black students face in the Western world and its devastating cyclical effects. This play is like nothing you know or you have seen.
