Black Student Orientation

The UBC Black Caucus, Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Program, Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, Black Student Union, and the Centre for Student Involvement & Careers have partnered to offer the Black Student Orientation (BSO), for the Fall 2022 term.

The purpose of this orientation is to create a space for new undergraduate and graduate Black students at the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses to start to build community with each other, receive tips for transitioning to UBC, and connect with Black-identifying student groups. Current UBC Black students are welcome to join the session.

Orientation Goals

The objectives of the session are to:

  • Foster a sense of community amongst incoming Black undergraduate and graduate students so that they feel welcomed, seen, and included in the UBC community.
  • Provide resources, tips, and strategies for a successful transition to UBC that takes into account the direct experiences of fellow Black students and faculty.
  • Equip new Black students with knowledge of where to go at/outside of UBC for a range of academic and personal support.

Students who attend the session will connect with fellow Black students and faculty.
